The Dog Walker

So, a week ago today I had a day off and had a great post to do about it but somehow a week went by and it didn't get done. But here it is. Last Tuesday I had the day off and it was beautiful out and my friend Cory (owner of my dogfriend Rio) said he was going to be working all day, leaving Rio all alone at the house. So I gladly offered my dog walking services so Rio wouldn't have to be cooped up all day by himself. So in the afternoon I went by and picked him up and we took a walk up into the canyon and it was marvelous.

The underground mining museum.

I had a hard time keeping up with Rio, so he had to stop and wait for me quite a few times.

We went up the road to a spot in the river where Rio could jump in and cool off and then we headed back down.
Along the way there are all sorts of old mining buildings.

We stopped at the bottom of the hill to cool off again.

I put my feet in but only for a minute. That water is COLD.

When we got back I picked up Bristol, who spent some time with us in the pods and still likes to come over and hang out. He wasn't into playing so I took Rio back home and walked Bristol down to the shop where Molly was working.

Pauli and Bristol hanging out in the shade on the break couch.

It was a great day to be outside and spend time with my furry friends. I had yesterday off (and today too, yay!) but it was spend relaxing and being pretty lazy. I'm not sure what today holds, but if it's worth sharing, I'll be sure to post about it sooner rather than later.

Snafting and other adventures...

So, we're working harder than ever these days, and I haven't been spending much time online (also I was without internet for about four days last weekend) so I'm sorry I haven't been posting. I think the only thing of note to tell about is our rafting trip we had on Monday. Every year the Mountain Man rafting company in town gives the theatre a huge discount for a company rafting trip and anyone in the company who wants to go can go. So obviously I was all about it. The weather had been great for the days leading up to it and I was convinced that that meant it would not be so for our rafting trip. Sure enough, Monday morning rolls along (we had to show up at 9am) and it is cold and snowing. Oh yes, the end of May and we're rafting in a snowstorm (hence: snow + rafting = "snafting"). And it wasn't just a few flakes every now and then, it was snowing snowing. But we went anyway and it was really fun. I think one of the guides said the water was 44 degrees. And the air was about the same.

Here we are, all bundled up in our splash gear...except for Molly who is crazy and opted to just wear shorts. We sat in the front because that's where the action happens. Which mostly means that's where you get really wet.

Here are some action shots of us going through the "rock garden" where we caught some of the best rapids, and I think where we hit a rock going sideways that knocked Molly over, thankfully into the raft:

I'm in the very front on the right from this point of view.

Here I'm on the left getting splashed with a big ol' wave. Our guide Kyle said at one point "I don't know what it looks like for you guys but when we go through the big rapids, I'm looking down on you." That's paraphrased of course but it was pretty cool to hear because pretty much all I was seeing was a whole lot of freezing cold water in the face/down my jacket/in my sleeves.

The river was really high and there were definitely some awesome rapids. Last year it was pretty low and we got caught on rocks a bunch of times, but we didn't really have to worry about that this time. It was super fun, but my pants definitely got wet even through my splash gear and my booties didn't zip up so they were full of freezing water, so it also felt really good to get home afterwards and put on warm, dry clothes. Then we went to Kip's and had a huge, delicious hot meal and afterwards I went back and had a very long, toasty nap. Overall it was a great day. Not a lot of people can say they've been rafting in a snowstorm, but I have to say I'm pretty proud that I can say that now.

Other than that, we've just been working a lot and trying to either rest or have a good time when we're not working our butts off. Open mic night is every Wednesday and we've been going to that, which has been great fun as always. Lots of dancing and good times. There was supposed to be live music last night but we showed up and found out it had been cancelled, which was a bummer because we don't have to work until noon today, so it was a perfect time to be able to go out and have a great time and not have to worry about being at work first thing in the morning. Oh well, there is plenty of live music to come. We're working noon to possibly midnight today and then a full day tomorrow, so I am very much looking forward to my day off on Monday. And then this show opens on Friday and Bohb said we will probably be getting TWO days off after that, so that will be quite luxurious and lovely. And much needed--and deserved. This show has been rather soul-sucking. But the next show looks like it should be a breeze so that will be a nice change for all of us.

I suppose that is about all I can think of for now. At some point I'll post pictures of the shop and the set and stuff so you all can see what it is that I do all day and where I do it and whatnot. And maybe tell you a little more in detail about what the summer schedule is like. It's a little bit insane. For now I am going to make a delicious breakfast to get me through the day and hopefully get ready for the work ahead of me. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I will try to appear on here a little more often.
