I'm Alive!

Wow, I have really been slacking on this haven't I? Sorry about that. It has been a rather tumultuous couple of weeks. I just had my birthday and Mom and Dad were here yay! But that will be a separate post. For now I'll just talk about a little bbq we had at the shop and 4th of July.

Andy, the props guy decided to make us burgers so we had a little BBQ at the shop. It was delicious!

We had it all set up inside because it was a little rainy.

Rainbow!

Todd taught me how to shoot the BB gun. I got pretty good. I think it was the Iron Man tattoo on my forearm.

Molly and I played cowgirls on Hank and Wilbur.

We also set off some little firecrackers.

Ooohh pretty!

So that was our fun shop time. Good food, good company, and we got to shoot stuff and set stuff on fire. Doesn't get much better than that!

And moving on to the 4th of July. This is the biggest day of the year for Creede. I was told that countless times from the moment I moved here. And indeed it was rather crazy. Someone said there weren't even as many people here as there usually are. But it was still a huge change from the usual quiet Creede I had come to know. There were all sorts of vendors in the parking lot across the street. Including....

TURKEY LEGS!! It was pretty good. A little dry, but tasty. And those are ribbon fries, I put tabasco sauce on mine and danngggg they were amazing. The only disappointment is that there was no funnel cake. But we had kettle corn, so that was good.

This is the mining competition that was going on across the street. There were a few different categories. This one is the single jack where they pound a stake into a rock.
This is the double jack, which is basically the same thing except one person holds the stake and the other person hammers and they switch back and forth. Needless to say, sometimes they miss. I only saw one round and he slipped a couple times, but no serious injuries.

This is where they use a machine drill. It's pretty impressive. And loud. There was another one where there was a machine with a bucket on tracks and they scooped dirt into it, but I didn't find that one as interesting as the others.

Molly and I were going to dress like cowgirls and ride the metal horses in the parade, but we didn't organize well enough so we ended up just watching, which was nice. It was a good little parade. This is the theatre group. We were allowed to use the costumes from the theatre, so there were some good ones. I think circus was a good theme for us.

There were a lot of really nice old cars. I liked the adorable little girl in the window of this one.

This is T-Black. I'm not sure if that's how you spell his name, but that's how I would guess it. He's is some sort of cajun character, very interesting and he had this cage in the back of his truck that is half full of beads and he was just grabbing handfuls and chucking them into the crowd. They were flying everywhere, it was highly entertaining.

I didn't get any pictures of the fireworks, but they were set off from the mountain at the north end of town, which was amazing.

Both main streets in town were lined with cars. I can't imagine where they were all coming from, but they were headed out of town right after the fireworks. Thankfully I just had to walk down the street and avoided the slow crawl of tail lights.

Phew, that was a lot. I don't think I left anything big out. Tomorrow or the next day I will post about my birthday and my visit with Ma and Pa. It was a good time!
